DC Support: 108th Wing answers the call

The 108th Wing, New Jersey Air National Guard, is answering the call from Washington D.C., sending roughly 50 Airmen to the National Capital Region this week. The Wing’s Guardsmen will assist local law enforcement and emergency management workers on the ground leading up to, and during the presidential inauguration.

108th Medical Group administers first doses of COVID-19 vaccine

Members of the 108th Medical Group began administering COVID-19 vaccines at Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst, N.J. on Jan. 9, 2021. U.S. Air Force Brig. Gen. Wayne M. McCaughey, Director of the Joint Staff for the New Jersey National Guard, was the first to receive the vaccine from 108th MDG staff.

108th Wing deploys in support of overseas operations

More than 80 New Jersey Air National Guardsmen departed this earlier this week for the U.S. Central Command’s area of responsibility to provide expeditionary support for Operation Freedom’s Sentinel, Operation Inherent Resolve and Operation Spartan Shield until spring 2021. The Airmen are comprised of a cross section of specialties from the 108th Wing at Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst, N.J., along with several members from the Ohio Air National Guard’s 121st Air Refueling Wing and the Wisconsin Air National Guard’s 128th Air Refueling Wing.

As a Dominican American in the New Jersey Air National Guard, Senior Airman Kevin Gonzalez-Luis is a part of the 14 percent of Hispanic Airmen in the U.S. Air Force, according to the Department of Defense Office for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion. His parents came to the U.S. in the 1990s and worked hard for their family to have a good life in a new country. Gonzalez-Luis works full time with the 108th Force Support Squadron's installation personnel readiness section where he is responsible for everything related to readiness and deployments. He also works part time at an Acura dealership where he learns and earns certifications for automotive technology. He hopes to one day become fully licensed and open his own automotive shop.

With a growing workforce, the 140th Cyberspace Operations Squadron is looking for leaders to join them and become cyber warfare operations officers. They are one of 12 Air National Guard cyber protection teams and are responsible for monitoring cyber-attacks to the nation's computer networks, stopping attacks, identifying hackers, and repairing the resulting damage.

By order of the Commander: July 1, 2020 The Wing has received conflicting guidance on travel restrictions over the past week. I intend to put out a comprehensive leave and travel policy next week. Until then, any 108th Wing Airmen who visits a location on the New Jersey Travel Advisory list must comply with state quarantine requirements unless their commander determines that they are mission essential. Anyone who travels to a New Jersey Advisory location this weekend must coordinate with their supervisor prior to reporting for duty in person.
