JOINT BASE MCGUIRE-DIX-LAKEHURST, N.J. -- Chief Master Sgt. Christian Skierski assumed the role of 108th Wing command chief during a change of responsibility ceremony March 5, 2022, at Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst, N.J.
As the senior enlisted leader, Skierski advises the commander on the strength of the wing in mission effectiveness, training, military readiness, and member health and welfare.
“I come from a position of empathy, meaning, I can relate and understand their [Airmen’s] issues, problems and concerns,” said Skierski.
Skierski enlisted into the United States Marine Corps in 1990 and after two assignments was honorably discharged in 1994. He joined the New Jersey Air National Guard in 2003 with the 177th Fighter Wing in Egg Harbor Township, N.J., where he advanced through the ranks and maintenance leadership positions. Before his current role, he served as the 177th Maintenance Group senior enlisted advisor.
“I didn’t grow up in the 108th, I came up in the 177th and now I need to figure out how to weave myself into the fabric of this wing,” said Skierski. “I want to really get to know the wing, how it operates and the people.”
In his first address to wing members, Skierski promised to “communicate in a transparent, concise and respectful manner showing no bias or favoritism.”
“I always did what I needed to do to be ready for the next level up,” said Skierski.
He believes others can do the same. The command chief says he urges Airmen to become invaluable to themselves by self-investing and being accountable for their actions. If they work harder on themselves, they will become wealthy and everyone will reap the benefits of that, said Skierski.
