  • 108th Civil Engineer Squadron building dedicated to Capt. Robert Mendez

    On Oct. 19, 2019, the 108th Civil Engineer Squadron’s building on Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst, N.J., was dedicated to Capt. Robert M. Mendez who passed away from kidney cancer on Jan. 16, 2017. Robert Mendez was the deputy base civil engineer for the 108th CES. He was responsible for overseeing day-to-day operations of a Prime Base Engineer Emergency Force (BEEF) squadron of approximately 80 personnel to include technical craftsmen and emergency managers. He also managed the military construction and sustainment, restoration, and modernization programs of the 108th Wing in support of multiple missions for the Air Mobility Command and Air Force Special Operations Command.

    Instructors from the Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst Flight Commander Course incorporated Air University’s live simulation – mixing reality leadership experience into the class for the first time in Air Mobility Command, Sept. 27 on Joint Base MDL.

    For the fourth time in six years, the 108th Wing Women’s Softball Team took first prize in the Air Guard’s National Women’s Softball Championship held at the Summit Softball Complex near Chattanooga, Tenn., from Aug. 15-17.
  • 108 CES aides construction of Mississippi camping facility

    The 108th Civil Engineering Squadron traveled to a construction site in Crystal Springs, Miss., from July 31-August 15, 2019, to assist with the construction of a camping facility, and gain vital hands-on training. The squadron partnered with the Mississippi’s Toughest Kids Foundation to help build Camp Kamassa, a year-round camping facility for children and adults with serious illnesses, disabilities or other challenges. Guard and reserve units from multiple branches have been rotating in and out for months prior to the 108th’s arrival.
