The 108th Mentoring Program will hold a Speed Networking Event on November 2, 2024, from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the 108th Wing Heritage Center. Mentorship offers an invaluable resource for Airmen seeking career guidance, strengthening foundational competencies, and expanding skill development. Studies even suggest that mentored individuals are 130% more likely to advance into leadership roles than those without mentorship.

"Our mentoring program is committed to fostering opportunities for building strong, impactful relationships," said SMSgt Luis Mendoza, 108th Wing Human Resources Advisor. "Mentorship is a reciprocal, collaborative process focused on the right match between mentor and mentee, allowing members to reach their full potential."

Through the program, CMSgt Marcie Montalvo, 108th MSG Senior Enlisted Leader and MSgt Christie Smith, JFHQ Executive Administration Assistant, have developed a meaningful mentor-mentee bond. Here’s what they have to share about their experiences:

MSgt Christie Smith: "The mentorship program has been incredibly valuable for the 108th Wing and me personally," Smith said. The guidance and support I've received from CMSgt Montalvo have been pivotal in my career decisions and growth. This program has allowed me to evolve both personally and professionally, and I am grateful to have a mentor of her caliber helping me navigate the opportunities I encounter. For anyone considering a role as either a mentor or mentee—go for it! And leaders, encourage those who would benefit from this program. Investing in the development of competent leaders is priceless."

CMSgt Marcie Montalvo: "The 108th Wing Mentorship Program is an invaluable resource for our Airmen, and I urge everyone to get involved! Without mentors—be they family, colleagues, supervisors, or coaches—none of us would be where we are today," said Montavlo. "This program allows Airmen of all ranks to connect and participate as mentors, mentees, or both. As a co-founder of the program, I am passionate about giving back to our Airmen by sharing our knowledge and experiences in hopes of inspiring others. As a mentor, I was paired with MSgt Christie Smith of the 108th Force Support Squadron. Since then, we’ve had discussions on both our military and civilian careers, future aspirations, and available professional development opportunities. MSgt Smith’s dedication and hard work recently earned her a full-time position at JFHQ, and she was also recognized as the New Jersey ANG Outstanding SNCO of the Year—congratulations."
