JOINT BASE MCGUIRE-DIX-LAKEHURST, N.J. -- What happens when a roomful of legal professionals meets? The answer is a lot!
In the case of the National Guard Northeast Region, the meet-up was a two-day training opportunity held at the 108th Wing on Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst, N.J., June 21-22, 2024.
Close to 60 Air and Army judge advocates, legal administrators, and paralegals spent time honing their skills, increasing their level of communication, and building camaraderie.
The Northeast Region comprises Guardsmen from Maine to New Jersey and includes Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands. While collaborating is nothing new to them, the training event was the perfect forum for them to network and to receive in-person support from leadership and from each other.
Brig. Generals Jaimie Areizaga, Principal Deputy General Counsel, and Sue Ellen Schuerman, Director of the Office of Complex Investigations, both from the National Guard Bureau, along Maj. Gen. Bobby Christine, Office of the National Guard Bureau General Counsel, also addressed the group.
Attendees were given updates in the legal arena and were briefed by subject matter experts in various areas of interest like Air and Army Defense Counsel Programs; Tetrahydrocannabinol – Delta 8 Issues; Uniformed Services Employment and Reemployment Rights Act and Servicemembers Civil Relief Act, and the Office of Complex Investigations.
