Goal met: 358 days to return to ‘normal’
Senior Airman Ashley V. Chytraus, a crew chief with the 108th Wing, New Jersey Air National Guard, prepares a KC-135R Stratotanker for a training flight at Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst, N.J., June 11, 2015. Chytraus was in a motorcycle accident June 21, 2014. The collision broke two vertebrae in Chytraus’s neck, crushed her hand, mangled the quadriceps tendon in her leg, forced two splintered ribs into her liver and fractured her elbow. In addition, she died while being medevaced to the hospital. 358 days later, she passed all portions of the Air Force Physical Fitness Test and received an excellent.
